Painting

I am spending the day painting, and am now done with the first coat on the bathroom ceiling. To paint above the shower I had to stand on a stool on an uneven floor. Heh, that did not end well. Stretching to reach the corner, the stool disapeared. There is not a whole lot of room to fall inside a shower, I think I hit 3 out of 4 walls on my way down. Turns out that the stool had not really disaperared. I found it again when I landed on the floor.

Troll costume

I still don't have a picture of Troy in his Troll costume, he is refusing to wear it. He is all about dressing up like a pirate, I guess Trolls just aren't cool enough.

Snow country

It is snowing, again. This morning I got me and Troy dressed, and we got out to my car. The car was of course covered in snow, so before I could go anywhere I had to dig out my car. I drove to Troy's day-care and took him inside. When I got back outside the car was covered in snow again, and I had to start digging again. On my way to work I passed a car that had flipped over. Seeing that always scare me, because I am really not all that good at driving on slippery roads.
Before I got to work I stopped by the grocery store to pick up some breakfast, and what do you know? When I got back outside the car was once again covered in snow, and I had to start with that darn brush to get the snow off of it again. On days like this, I really miss the heat and humidity of Houston.

Homesick

Someone asked me where I consider home to be, and I have to say that for me, home is still Houston. I miss the city so much. Life has not been easy since I moved back here, and I really wish I could go back home. In Houston you can be as visible or anonymous as you want to be, that is not an option here. I really need to figure out a way to get the money for a vacation over there.
When I feel really homesick I watch animal cops Houston, just to see my "hometown"

Sick again

I was sincerely hoping that Troy would not get the cold that everyone at his day-care has had this past month, but when we woke up Sunday he had a fever, and he has had a temperature between 102 and 104 since. Norway is really not agreeing with Troy, it feels like he has been sick since we got off the plane.

Traumatizing Troy

I love Mom weekends, and this weekend is my weekend. It does seem like I’ve traumatized Troy a bit today.
It started when we were still in bed. I am tired of the streetlight that always shine on my face when I am in bed, so I laid down on the other side of Troy. This did not go over well with the little guy, he woke up and found me on the “wrong” side, and he started crying telling me to move back to my side.
My sister and her little girl decided to join us for a fun filled day, and we decided to go to Toys R Us. Troy and Celina were really excited about the toys, and then Geoffery, the Toys R Us giraffe shows up. I hold Troy’s hand as we walk over to G. Celina is polite and tells him her name, Troy looking a little traumatized tells G: my name is Celina, and then he start backing away. G leaves and Troy is OK, but then G comes back and Troy totally freaks out. He starts crying and screaming at G to go away, go away!!
Later we go to Lekeland, which is like a giant McDonald’s playground. My sister and I play with the kids, and Troy and I crawl through this maze and end up at a slide. I help Troy into it and push him down. I look over at where I thought he was supposed to come out, and I realize that’s not it!! I try to look for the end of the slide and realize that it is on the first floor of the building on the go-cart court. It is fenced in, so no danger to the kids. There is my poor little guy trapped on the in the middle of the court with really loud cars zooming by him, and no way of getting out of there (think McDonald’s playground, and how the kids have to climb to get to the slide). I send my sister down the slide (my ass is somewhat to big for one of those 100% built in slides). Then I finally find the stairs and crawl down to my crying boy.
Not exactly mother of the year today. I have to say that in between the traumas he had a lot of fun, but he has talked a lot about G, and we talked about how when someone scares him, he should tell them to go away.

Troy

Testing to see if I can send videos from my cell, and it seems to be working. I can only send very short videos though.

Story telling

I am amazed at how well Troy is talking. He is 26 months old, and he can now tell quite elaborate stories. This morning he was telling me the story of Emils father who is a really angry man, and who always yells EEEmiiiiiiiiiiilll!! When he yells like that, Emil has to run to his shed to hide from his father, and he likes to hide together with his best friend Pinky. They like to play hide and seek together while hiding from Emil's dad.

This is a story where he takes the contents of two different movies that he likes, and he has mixed the stories together and elaborated a little. I love listening to these little stories that he tells.

Chocoholic

I have to admit that I am a chocoholic. I think I could substitute just about any meal with one made of chocolate. I am going to try to "sober up" and quit eating chocolate. So far I am two days in, and have really bad cravings. Wish me luck.

Frank Zappa

Can someon please explain to me why they have to play Bobby Brown by Frank Zappa on the radio just about daily over here. What is it about Norwegians and that song?
Has anyone listened to the lyrics? I am just asking.

Troll costume for Troy

Troy's daycare is going to have a Troll day on the 27th, and he will need a costume. I would have liked to just buy a costume, but I have not been able to find a costume of a Norwegian Troll, so I will have to make it.
I really am the least crafty person out there, so Farmor is going to help us make the costume. I guess we are going to try to be creative tonight. Wish us good luck.

The blog is now open for anyone to leave a comment

Valentine's day

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. It is daddy's weekend so Troy and me were going over for dinner tonight. Troy made cards for Pappa and Farmor and Farfar, he did it by himself and he was so proud of them. We also went by the store to pick up some flowers for Farmor, and since this was a gift from Troy I let him pick the flowers. He took a long time making sure he got the right ones, and he ended up getting white roses. I am pretty sure that Farmor was very happy about her gift, and Troy was so proud giving them to her. All in all a good day all around.

Troy has a girlfriend

I was home sick with a migraine today so I went to pick up Troy from daycare. I got there as he just finished his nap and he was so happy to see me. Picking up is so much better than doing the delivering in the morning.
As I was gathering his stuff, Troy looked at me all said and told me that the kids did not want to kiss him. As he said this his girlfriend Tiril came running. Kiss, kiss. So Troy got a kiss on his lips. i wonder if this can count as his first kiss.
Troy really likes Tiril, they play together all day, and his teacher tells me that he really takes good care of her.

Winter

It is cold here. Today it is a lovely 10F. In Houston I could dress Troy in a diaper and he would be comfortable, maybe even warm. In Norway however we need a lot of clothes, and I mean a lot. We start out with wool long johns, and undershirt. We then put on the wool pants and sweater. To finish the whole thing off, we put on a knit wool pant, and a knit wool sweater. At this time we are ready for the snowsuit, this would also usually be about the time where Troy tells me he needs his diaper changed. It never fails, no matter how recently he went to the bathroom. Man do I miss that warm Texas sun.

Troy on divorce

Troy is only 2 years old, so I am assuming that he no longer remembers a time when his mom and dad lived together. I know it is important for him that mamma and pappa likes each other because he often say stuff like: Mamma likes Pappa, or Pappa likes Mamma. He also likes to include himself and says: Mamma and Pappa likes me. I of course reassure him that this is true all the time.

He really surprised me the other day when he asked where his dad was.
Me: Pappa is at Farmor and Farfar's house (where he lives).
Troy: No, Pappa not stay Farmor, Farfar.
Me: Oh, where do you think daddy should stay?
Troy: Pappa should be with Mamma and me. (Pappa være her. Pappa være med Mamma å mææg).
Not sure if he wants the two most important people in his life to be together so that he can se us as much as possible, or if he has some understanding that parents and their children usually live together.

Troy's obsession

He is no Johnny Depp.
Troy is obsessed with this Norwegian pirate called Kaptein Sabeltann. In southern Norway they have shows every summer, and I am thinking I am going to take him to a show this summer.

Child abuse

Troy's grandparents Farmor and Farfar bought Troy skis for x-mas. The first time he tried them on he cried like there was no tomorrow. He did not like his skis one bit, and he decided he wanted to give them to his cousin Celina.
I have since then kept the skis in the hallway so that he can see them everyday. Yesterday we decided to try them on again, and this time he thought it was fun. He did not walk far, and he needed some help, but I think he was pretty good for his first time skiing.

After skiing Troy was very proud of himself and wanted to call Farmor to let her know that he had been skiing. When we called her he talked to her about skiing and his day at day-care. He then proceeds to tell her: Farmor, Mamma bit me! whereas he turns around and looks at me and tells me: you are not allowed to bite me Mamma (ikke bite mæ nei mamma). Huh, it's a little early to start accusing me of child abuse don't you think.

5 am

Troy keeps waking up at 5 in the morning, and though I may be a morning person, I consider 5am to be in the middle of the night still.
This morning Troy woke up at 5 and immediately wanted me to get up. I told him no, go back to sleep it is still nighttime. He kept nagging and I kept saying no. Finally I told him that if he really wanted to get up he could, but I was staying in bed. He looked over at me and said: FY mamma! FY! You are not allowed to say that to me! Quite the temper on my little man.
I think that I will let him have his naps still, but for an hour a day max. Now he sleeps for up to 2 hours and I think that is too much for a 2 year old.

Baby gymnastics

Every other Tuesday I take Troy to a baby gymnastics class. He just loves running around with all the other kids. He is really good, and it is great exercise. After an hour of running around someone said that it was about time to start putting stuff away since the class was over. Troy heard the over part and ran out the door. He did not even have time to put on his coat. He had obviously had enough, and when we came home he fell asleep ten minutes after I put him to bed.

I love you

Troy has told me he loves me in English for a long time now. He has not said in Norwegian, that is until last night. We were playing around and all of a sudden he said: gla i dæ mamma

What a great way to wake up

This morning I looked over at Troy when I woke up, and he smile at me and said: Good morning sunshine.
What a great way to wake up.

I had to test and see if I could blog from my cell phone. Obisouly I can, except I have no idea how to not just create a new blog. Anyway, I sent a picture from my cell phone. Troy is playing on the beach next to our house.

Test
This weekend was a daddy weekend, and Troy really impressed pappa by not only counting, but also showing that he now understands the concept of counting. He took up a building block and showed pappa how to count all the corners.
Happy Birthday uncle Njord!
